57, of Sunrise
Beach, Mo., passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at his home surrounded by
his wife and family. He was born March 12, 1953, in Kansas City,
Mo., the son of Carroll and Helen Watson Smith.
On July 20, 2007, in Camden County,
Mo., he was united in marriage to Deidre Lux, who survives of the home.
Rick was a retired member of Heat and
Frost Insulators Local Union No. 27, which he loved. He was a
member for 38 years holding numerous offices.
He was a member of the Sons of the
American Legion in Sunrise Beach, and was an Eagle Scout, Troop 133,
through the Roanoke Christian Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Rick was a devoted family man and
avid sports fan, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, the Missouri Tigers
and NASCAR. He loved Sponge Bob, and was a big kid at heart,
especially when it came to playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Deidre, he
is survived by his sons, Eric Richard Smith and wife Erin of Lee’s
Summit, Mo., and Joshua Cameron Smith of Grandview, Mo.; his daughters,
Amie Michelle Smith of Plano, Texas, April Marie Svec and husband Mike
of St. Louis, Mo., and Ashley Anne Lux of Omaha, Neb.; four
grandchildren, Justin Smith, Cameron Smith, Brendan Smith, and Olivia
Svec; his parents, Carroll and Helen Smith of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; his
brother, Mark Joseph Smith and wife Susan of Peculiar, Mo.; three
sisters, Vickie Carol McElhany and husband Bud of Peculiar, Mo., Deborah
Kay Lesher of Harrisburg, Pa., and Rhonda Lea Burgess and husband Joe of
Kaiser, Mo.; seven nephews; four great-nephews; three great-nieces; and
many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his
grandmothers, Mildred Diggs and Mildred Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach
Chapel with Chaplain Bart Larson officiating. Interment will follow in
the Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery in Laurie. The family will
receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to “Haley’s Helpers”, to support
Down’s Syndrome research in honor of Rick’s great-niece with Down’s
