FOR THE
2007-2008 APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM


Asbestos Worker Apprentice – 4 Year Program

Insulators apply insulation to pipes, tanks, vessels, boilers, sheet metal ductwork, etc., primarily in the commercial and industrial fields. Basic materials used are fiberglass, calcium silicate, plastics, urethane, and sheet metal. Work requires skill in the use of knife and nippers, scissors, saws, metal shears, power tools and other tools in applying and finishing the above insulation products.

Basic Qualifications

1. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age. Copy of Birth Certificate required.
2. Applicants shall be high school graduates or shall have passed a “General Education Development” test. Copy of high school diploma, transcript or GED required.
3. Applicant shall be physically able to perform all the work of the trade with due regard to aptitude, attitude, personal characteristics, and shall be subject to medical examination prior to being employed.

Applications – When and Where to Apply:

Applications will be accepted by the Mo-Kan Asbestos Workers Apprenticeship Committee at the Local 27 Office, 400 South Main, Independence, Missouri, 64050, starting Thursday, March 1, 2007, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. The Office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. All applications must be completed at the office. Applicants will be notified via mail of their interview schedule, to be determined at a later date based upon the number of applicants.

Selection of Apprentices under this program is made on the basis of qualifications alone as set forth in the approved standards and selection procedures on the Apprenticeship Committee for the trade. All applicants are afforded equal opportunity without regard to race, creed, color, sex or national origin. Final selection and placement of apprentices is made by the Mo-Kan Asbestos Workers Apprenticeship Committee.

ATTENTION: Due to the uncertainty of the economy, the Apprenticeship Committee is unable to specify the number of applicants they will accept. The number of placements will depend upon the economy.
